Unboxing my Rikomagic MK802 IV Android Mini Computer

I was watching my tracking number like a mad man! When the MK802 IV was delivered, I rushed home from work (it was supposed to be a lunch hour, but accidently turned into three) and couldn’t wait to fire this puppy up.

This is what came in the box:

When I plugged this micro computer in and powered it up, it took only 20 seconds to boot up. Pretty sweet! Connecting to my wireless network was painless.   It found my network, then I simply typed in my encryption key and I was in with a solid IP address!

Then, I started to install my favorite Android apps on this minicomputer the same way I have done with my Android phone. I watched some YouTube videos at full HD resolutions. I was like blown away by this mini pc!   I easily connected to my NAS device and was able to watch video and played music, yeah, I am a Kiss fan, too.

I also decided to try and see how 2X worked, and within minutes, I was able to connect to my windows pc and remote control it with ease!   I would l love to try this pc to connect via Citrix, and see how that works… Perhaps something for a future article.

Well, after about 3 and a half hours of playing games, installing apps and watching YouTube on my Rikomagic MK802 IV, my boss was calling to see what happened to me……   Uhhhh…  I got a flat tire…  at the gas station now….  Uhhhh sorry boss…   Anyway, after about 3 and a half hours the mini pc was warm, but not excessively hot.

One of the things I did notice when playing around with it is that there is no audio jack.  Why? I don’t know and would like to see one on future models.   It didn’t really matter, as the audio is piped through the HDMI port into the TV anyway.  From the TV, I am running the audio to my stereo, equipped with Klipsh speakers…   Sounds rockin!   So, I probably wouldn’t use the audio jack much anyway.

My first impressions was that I am so happy I decided on the Rikomagic MK802 IV and glad that I didn’t go with the Zotac mini pc, which was the other mini computer that I was thinking about.    This Android based fanless pc is so quiet!   Way Cool!
