MK802iv Firmware – Is It Easy To Upgrade The Rikomagic?

Yes, It is very easy to Upgrade the MK802iv Firmware!

Hi, it is Jimmy again, and welcome back!

I just installed the latest version of the firmware for the Rikomagic mk802iv and it was pretty easy to do.   The hardest thing about it, was finding the mk802iv firmware to download from the manufacturer’s site and then deciphering the broken Engrish in the directions, which really wasn’t that bad.

I have made my own version of how to flash your MK802iv firmware article, that I posted here.  I hope you find my article makes upgrading your Rikomagic MK802iv firmware a piece of cake.

I suppose the hardest part of the process was holding down the reset button on the mini-pc with a bent paperclip, while plugging in the USB cable into the OTG port at the same time.   If you can walk and chew gum at the same time, you shouldn’t have an issue.

Now, as I wrote in the little guide I posted, just because you can update your MK802iv firmware, doesn’t mean that you have to do it.    You would want to weigh your options if it makes sense to proceed with going ahead and upgrading.   Again, if it isn’t broken, and you like the way it is working, you may not want to upgrade.

If you do choose to upgrade the MK802iv firmware in your Rikomagic mini pc, then I would recommend doing a little research online to see if other folks have had issues with the upgrade.   There is a Rikomagic forum on a UK website, and a few Google searches can get you the results you are looking for.

For those who are interested in installing Linux on your TV Dongle, the process would be just about the same as flashing your firmware.    You would download the .img file for your Linux image that is correct for your MK802iv, and use the same tool to write that image down to the BIOS of the MK802iv.   Currently, some of the folks in the UK forum are working on an image for a Linux port for this Rikomagic mini pc.  As promised, I will keep you posted.
